Frequently Asked Questions:
- How many clothes equal 12 pounds, 15 pounds?
We find that most of our customers use about 15 pounds of laundry per week. This includes a couple pairs of jeans, a couple pairs of shorts, several T-shirts, a few dress shirts, a couple towels and a sweatshirt. We have found that most people have no problem at all of making our 12 pound minimum per week on the weekly route, but if you do maybe it’s time to wash those sheets and blankets on your bed. During the winter, people tend to use more poundage per week because you wear jeans and sweatshirts, as opposed to shirts and t-shirts during the summer months. Also, if you work out regularly or are an athlete, you tend to use more poundage.
- How do I pay?
That’s easy! The Student Valet bills you via credit or debit card and accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. The Student Valet will keep your information in our secure files to debit your account each time you use our services whether it’s just the one time, or every week. You can even have your parents or grand parents pay using their credit card…billing information can be changed at any time. Sorry no cash or checks accepted…it’s simply for the safety of our drivers and you.
- What do I put my clothes into for pick up?
You can put your dirty clothes in your laundry basket, container, etc., or use garbage bags. They will come back folded in our clean plastic bags ready to wear.
- What types of washers/dryers are used?
Your clothes are hand separated and washed in our high efficiency washers and dryers. Once your clothes are dried, they are hand folded on our folding tables and packaged for delivery in clean plastic bags.
- What detergents are used for my clothes?
The Student Valet uses Household detergents and dryer sheets, NO harsh industrial strength detergents for your clothes. We don’t use anything on your clothes we wouldn’t use on our own.
- Do you offer dye/fragrance free detergent?
Yes, we offer no dye/no fragrance detergent at no extra charge. But, please make sure to mention this to Student Valet when your order is picked up as well as note on our ‘Special Handling’ tag. We will automatically use no dryer sheets as well for these orders.
- What temperatures are used when washing and drying?
The Student Valet will wash your clothes in cold water, warm for whites. We dry your clothes on medium heat or low for more delicate clothing.
- What if I have something that I don't want dried or needs special care?
Simply fill out both the ‘Special Handling’ tag and ‘Special Handling’ section of the Inventory Sheet with instructions for that special piece of clothing. Be sure to put the bright RED Special Handling tag on the outside of your bag ID badge so the staff at Student Valet will separate out and treat that special piece of clothing with the care it needs and deserves. If these steps are not followed, Student Valet will not take responsibility for items damaged by “normal washing & drying” per our processes outlined directly above.
- What if I left something in the pockets?
The staff at The Student Valet will do their best to check all pockets in your clothing prior to washing. However, it is ultimately your responsibility for items left in pockets. If we find anything it will be returned in our bright orange ‘Safe & Secure Bags’.
- What if my schedule changes and I cannot be at home for my scheduled delivery?
1. If a roommate is going to be home, we can leave your laundry with them.
2. If it is acceptable with your building, we can leave your laundry at a Front Desk/Office for you to pickup.
3. We can leave your laundry outside your door.
If you need to reschedule, please CALL us (NO e-mails unless it is well in advance) and we would be happy to schedule a more convenient time.
IMPORTANT: If you do not contact us to reschedule your pick-up/delivery and are not at home during your scheduled pick-up or delivery time you will be charged a $10 no answer fee!
We try to give everyone a first time warning, but please keep in mind that for every person who is not home that we have to circle back to later in the day, it pushes us about 30 minutes behind for everyone else.
